Community Governance
Pinaymootang First Nation Chief and Council
Community governance structures are established for the following purposes:

To provide effective governance to community residents

To develop and maintain a safe and healthy community

To provide services, programs, facilities, and supports required or permitted under applicable legislation, or as deemed necessary or desirable by Chief and Council for the well-being of the community
Chief and Council play a key role in community health governance. They hold ultimate authority for all matters related to health, including:

Development, review, and evaluation of health plans, policies, program delivery, administrative operations, and services to patients and clients

Approval of decisions and resolutions related to health services

Ensuring that the powers, duties, and functions of community government are carried out appropriately
Health Portfolio Council Holders
Designated Health Portfolio Councillors represent Chief and Council in health-related matters. The Health Portfolio Councillor is responsible for monitoring health operations, supporting oversight, and acting as a liaison between Chief and Council and the health department.
Responsibilities of the Health Portfolio Councillor include:

Attending all health-related meetings

Reviewing information, preparing reports, and engaging with community members and stakeholders

Representing the interests and concerns of the public

Working collaboratively with the Health Advisory Committee and the Executive Health Director

Reviewing relevant reports, documents, and informational materials

Ensuring that issues and concerns are communicated appropriately to Chief and Council, where decision-making authority resides
Chief and Council were elected in 2023 for a four-year term under the Indian Act. The governing body consists of one Chief and six Councillors who provide leadership for Pinaymootang First Nation.
